A Gift of Pampering and Relaxation to a Wonderful Mum

In the celebration of Mother’s Day this March, we wanted to share a blog post about one of the most demanding, challenging, hardest and, also most rewarding jobs in the world – being a mum.

Whether you’re a stay-at-home mum or working mum – raising children is challenging. Therefore, self-care is absolutely essential. Making sure that you take care of yourself and fill your own cup so you can be the best for your children.

Burnout

The pressure from society, work, personal relationships as well as finances and the expectation to be perfect are all reasons that contribute to burnout. And more often than not, experiencing all this pressure usually leads to negligence of self-care.

In order to avoid parenting burnout, it’s crucial to recognise symptoms that indicate the need for slowing down and giving yourself time to recover. Here are some symptoms that show you might be experiencing burnout:

Hard time focusing and not being able to complete your tasks
Questioning your purpose, goals, meaning to the things you do
Constantly feeling exhausted
Neglecting or being inattentive to children
Experiencing anxiety and depression
Feeling unmotivated and ineffective
Mood swings

The good news is that there are steps that can be taken in order to avoid burnout. One of the biggest steps is your mindset related subject – self-care. If you are not fulfilled, happy, well rested and full of energy yourself, what you can give others is very limited. Even though to some scheduling time for self-care feels selfish – it’s actually the opposite. It’s necessary in order to be your best self and be able to give to others.

We all have heard about the potential consequences of unhealthy diet, being in a constant state of stress and experiencing lack of sleep. All of these things can quite easily become a norm in mum’s life, unless you are aware of your wellbeing and make a conscious effort to give yourself more attention and care.

By focusing on your self-care, you are not being selfish or neglecting your children. Quite the opposite – you are a great example for them and show how important wellbeing and healthy habits are in everyone’s life. You are also showing that you are a person with your own needs and goals. When you have taken time for rejuvenation and slowing down, you can spend quality time with your children later in the day, instead of being sensitive or exhausted.

How do you practice self-care?

It can range from a variety of things/habits/activities – it really depends on what brings you peace, makes you feel rejuvenated and well rested. Whether it’s writing in a journal, taking long baths in the evening, therapy,  going for a walk, etc. Most importantly – plan it in your week, put it in your calendar and don’t reschedule. Let your family know that is your “mum time” and that you can’t be disturbed.

Massage as self-care

It’s known that we carry stress in our body – most often it’s felt as tightness in our shoulders, neck or back. It can also affect our digestion and sleep. This pain and discomfort already signals that you are going through too much stress and your body is struggling to cope. This is where it’s so important to listen to your body and acknowledge what’s needed in order to give it the strength it needs.

Getting a massage is one of the simplest, yet one of the most effective ways of self-care. It helps release tension from your body and relaxes your mind. Massages have been proven to help our physical, mental and emotional health. Here are just some of the benefits from getting a regular massage:

Helps with digestion
Reduces anxiety
Reduces muscle tension, therefore also relaxes your mind
Improves sleep
Helps improve immune system
Boosts all 4 of your “happy hormones” – dopamine, endorphin, serotonin, oxytocin.
Reduces headache

A gentle touch also goes a long way, especially for mums and parents in general. We all experience a calming effect from touch and gives us a feeling of comfort and caring.

Here at Enhance we offer a variety of wonderful massages by our experienced therapists. They range from 30 minute treatments if you are short for time, to long , full body care packages. Here are some that we recommend you to enjoy (or gift to your amazing mum to say a little “thank you” for her hard work and unconditional love).

This month, our therapists have curated a couple of wonderful packages to treat the amazing mums out there. It’s a gorgeous treat that will help you feel relaxed, energised and loved. Choose from two of our Mother’s Day packages:
